Healing intimacy after sexual trauma

After sexual trauma, intimacy can feel frightening, numb or overwhelming, even with a loving partner. Healing is possible, and it can happen at your pace, with your choices respected at every step.

How trauma affects intimacy

Trauma teaches the body to protect itself. Years later, touch, smells, positions or even a partner’s tone can trigger fear or shutdown, sometimes without a clear memory attached. Survivors often blame themselves for these reactions, but they are the nervous system doing its job.

A trauma-informed approach

We work transparently: explaining everything, asking permission, and giving you control over pace and focus. Therapy may include education about trauma responses, grounding techniques, rebuilding a positive relationship with your body, and, if and when you choose, gradual steps towards comfortable intimacy.

Getting additional support

Where helpful, we will recommend specialised trauma therapy or other services alongside our work. Your safety and wellbeing always come first.
